Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Brings Back Foldable Smartphone With More Improvements

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 was teased a few weeks ago during the last Galaxy Unpacked, and now it has been officially introduced to the world!

Samsung has already offered us two foldable smartphones in the past year; the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Samsung Galaxy Flip. This year, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the latest foldable offering from Samsung that promises plenty of improvements, enhanced refinements and meaningful innovations.

So here’s what you need to know!

Price and Availability

The Galaxy Fold 2 doesn’t have a local pricing and availability yet (though we expect it to be announced soon as it is listed on Samsung Malaysia’s website) so for now here’s what was announced at the official launch.

The Galaxy Fold 2 that comes with 256GB will be made available and priced as such in these countries: United States at USD 1999 (~RM8281), Germany at EUR 1949 (~RM9652), and the UK at GBP 1799 (~RM10,019).

Galaxy Fold 2 Features

As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy Fold 2 comes with some new enhancements to make it more refined and worth using. It comes re-engineered with a sleek, unified design that delivers a smooth, high-end feel. The Samsung Ultra Thin Glass is now on the Main Screen, providing a more premium and refined feel for the display. This design is then anchored by the Hideaway Hinge, which fits seamlessly into the device body with the CAM mechanism and enables free standing capabilities 2 that power all new Flex mode experiences.

The Galaxy Z Fold2 also employs sweeper technology, which was first introduced on the Galaxy Z Flip, within the gap between the body and hinge housing to repel dust and undesirable particles. The device features a third-generation refined design, the space
for the sweeper structure is even smaller than on the Galaxy Z Flip. To achieve this, Samsung developed new innovative sweeper technology to achieve the same level of protection in a smaller space. The foldable device’s Hideaway Hinge features revolutionary slim cutting technology, modified fiber composition and adjusted fiber density.

For its foldable screen, it comes with a 6.2-inch Infinity-O Cover Screen that when unfolded, becomes a massive 7.6-inch Main Screen, with minimised bezels and notch-less Front Camera, that when paired with a 120Hz adaptable refresh rate, you’re getting a smooth and seamless experience with little interruption.

Customisation is possible with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, as like the Galaxy Fold before where you can get a different coloured hinge to your preferred coloured Galaxy Z Fold 2, but we didn’t get said customisation here in Malaysia and as such, we cannot confirm if this will be available for the new version as well.

For the camera, it has the usual array of wide, ultrawide, and telephoto cameras on the back, yet all three have 12MP sensors which may be unimpressive for many especially when compared to the S20 and Note20. But there are two selfie cameras — one for the cover screen and one for the main display — and each is 10MP. And because it’s a foldable device, the best way to take selfies is by unfolding the device and use the main cameras along with the cover display for your viewfinder.

The foldable device is also great for multitasking (as you would expect) as you can open 2-3 apps at a time and when you take a screenshot of these multiple apps, each app’s screenshot will be stored separately. It will also still support the feature that maintains continuity between the outer and inner displays when you open the phone. Samsung is also ensuring more apps support the table layouts on the device, especially from Google and Microsoft.
